Mexican American War

Mexican American War, Civil War participants

April 25, 1846 to February 2, 1848. Mexican cavalry were the instigators of this war when they attacked a group of U.S. soldiers in a disputed zone commanded by General Zachary Taylor. The attack killed about a dozen Americans. As a result war began.

Of note, many Civil War commanders fought in this war, including Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant and many others would fight against one another 13 years later.

Our collections from this war include weapons, uniforms, flags and much more.
