Persian Gulf War. The U.S. led a coalition of 34 nations in 1991 to answer the unprovoked Iraq invasion of Kuwait.

2001 to present. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, American might was drawn into the war on terrorism, which continues today.

U.S. servicemen and women have been engaged in Afghanistan and Iraq since October 2001. Initial airstrikes hit on October 7, 2001 with ground forces deployed October 19. It is historically the longest war in U.S. history.
