June 18, 1812–February 17, 1815 This conflict fought between the United States and Great Britain was due to British violations of U.S. maritime rights. It ended with the ratification of what is known as the Treaty of Ghent.

Virginian William Henry Harrison, the future 9th president of the US, who would die within a month after his inauguration, was a key figure in the War, receiving a Congressional Gold Medal for his service.
